
In furtherance of his mission to promote Phoenix University Agwada as a citadel of quality academic learning, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Bala on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, undertook a stakeholders engagement trip to Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State.
During the tour, the Vice Chancellor paid courtesy calls of the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State and the Commissioners responsible for Environment, Information and Education.
At the office of the SSG, the VC met with Barrister Labaran Magaji and used the occasion to congratulate him over his recent appointment and swearing-in as the SSG. In a letter of congratulations to him, the VC stated that “Your sterling public service and contributions as a legal luminary are no doubt contributory factors to the appointment.” He therefore urged him to use the opportunity of his appointment to enhance the joint relationship that exists between Phoenix University and the Nasarawa State Government.
At the office of the Commissioner for Environment, the VC, aside from congratulating him on his appointment, informed him of the toxic fumes that are produced by the charcoal-producing company located near the university. The VC informed officials of the Ministry that the fumes were causing respiratory problems for staff and students of the University and immediate necessary measures should be taken to mitigate the problem before the harmful effects become irreversible.
Proceeding to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the VC interacted with officials of the ministry on ways to publicize the activities of the University and joint collaborations in the area of digital literacy and new media. The VC urged the Ministry to always include the University in its publicity programmes so that adequate awareness can be created amongst the citizens of the State.
Finally, the VC visited the Ministry of Education, where he engaged the management on ways to strengthen the relationship between the University and the State Government. The VC applauded the Ministry for facilitating the award of scholarships to 92 students of the State and urged that further opportunities should be given to the people of the state to enable their wards acquire quality higher education.
In all the places visited, the SSG and Commissioners pledged their support to Phoenix University, assuring that they have personal interests in ensuring the growth and stability of the University. They also pledged to partner with the University in different training programmes as may be jointly agreed by all parties.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied on the trip by the University Librarian, Dr. Samuel Jimba.
