Biography of Dr. Ojo Lukman Olatunji

Dr. Ojo Lukman Olatunji is a Nigerian academic, accounting scholar, researcher, and professional accountant. He was born on 5 May 1985 in Suleja, Niger State, and hails from Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State. He obtained his B.Sc. in Accounting, M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance, Ph.D. in Accounting, and B.Sc. in Taxation from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Dr. Ojo is currently a Lecturer I and Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance at Phoenix University, Agwada, Nasarawa State. He also serves as a Tutorial Lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria and has maintained a long-standing academic relationship with Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he has served as an IJMB Part-time Lecturer and Accounting Laboratory Manager.

His teaching experience covers courses such as Financial Accounting, Introduction to Accounting, Microeconomics, Financial Management, Computer Forensics, and International Public Sector Accounting. He is a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management, and has served as a conference marker for ANAN.

Dr. Ojo has published widely in accounting and management-related fields, with research interests in corporate governance, tax aggressiveness, audit quality, financial reporting, sustainability reporting, risk disclosure, and firm value. He is also proficient in research and accounting tools, including STATA, EViews, SPSS, SmartPLS, QuickBooks, Sage 50, Sage Evolution, Microsoft Office, and IDEA.

  • Core academic programmes: The Department of Accounting and Finance offers two undergraduate programmes: B.Sc. Accounting and B.Sc. Banking and Finance, designed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge in accounting, banking, finance, management, and entrepreneurship.
  • Accounting and financial reporting: The department emphasizes financial accounting, financial reporting, corporate reporting, advanced financial reporting, IFRS-based accounting, and accounting standards, preparing students for professional accounting practice.
  • Taxation and public finance: Key areas include taxation, public finance, petroleum accounting, public sector accounting and reporting, and financial responsibility, with focus on both private and public sector applications.
  • Banking, finance, and capital market studies: The curriculum covers elements of finance, financial management, capital market studies, financial engineering, banking operations, credit management, and micro and small business finance.
  • Corporate governance, ethics, and auditing: The department gives attention to corporate governance, accounting ethics, auditing and assurance, internal control, audit procedures, and professional ethical standards for accountants.
  • Technology-driven accounting education: Notable emphasis is placed on computerized accounting, accounting laboratory practice, cloud and desktop accounting, data processing, database management, payroll systems, and accounting software applications such as Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle, SAP, and cloud accounting tools.
  • Artificial intelligence and data analytics: The department integrates emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, machine learning concepts, data visualization, Microsoft Excel, Python, big data, cloud computing, and ethical AI usage into business and accounting education.
  • Entrepreneurship and startup development: The department promotes entrepreneurship through courses on financial literacy, foundations of entrepreneurship, business planning, launching a startup, managing startups, venture creation, and micro and small business finance.
  • Islamic accounting and finance: The programme includes Islamic accounting, Islamic economics, accounting for zakah and Islamic inheritance, and financial reporting for Islamic financial institutions, making the curriculum broader and more inclusive.
  • Practical and competency-based training: The department is structured to develop students’ computer literacy, quantitative skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, information technology skills, entrepreneurial ability, and problem-solving capacity.
  • Qualified academic staffing: The department has academic staff with Ph.D.-level qualifications in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, and Banking and Finance, supported by accounting laboratory assistants for practical training.
